Superman Returns

I got back from seeing Superman Returns this past weekend feeling a little disappointed. I wasn't expecting much so I wasn't crushed but it didn't really ring true for me. I really didn't like the fact that Lois had a child with Superman. It just doesn't seem like something he would do. The kid himself was pretty annoying. My buddy compared him to Damien, the possessed kid in The Omen which I thought was pretty funny. Kate Bosworth was way too young to be convincing as Lois. I did like Brandon Routh as Superman and Clark though. He channeled Christopher Reeve pretty well and he looked pretty good in the suit although why they had the S symbol on the belt buckle was beyond me. I thought Kevin Spacey went through the motions as Lex Luthor which surprised me because he's usually really good in everything he does. I hope the sequels are a little more original and not as blatant an homage to the Richard Donner film, which is one of my all time favorite movies. What made the movie better than it probably was was the beautiful old theater my friends and I saw it at. The Gem Theatre outside Charlotte is a beuatiful old theater built in the late 30's that still has the small town charm that many theaters today lack. It was like seeing a movie in Mayberry in the 50's. It was great. I recommend the film if you like comic book movies but it could have been a lot better.
